2023 Solar Eclipse in Boerne

The Texas Hill Country is the place to be for the upcoming solar eclipse on October 14, 2023!

What is a Solar Eclipse

A solar eclipse happens when the moon briefly blocks the Sun’s light by passing between the Earth and the Sun, turning day into night momentarily. While solar eclipses are pretty common (total eclipses happening roughly every 18 months), what isn’t so common is these eclipses happening where they can be seen.

An annular eclipse occurs when the Moon partially covers the sun, creating a glowing ring around the edges. Unlike a Total Eclipse, an annular eclipse lets the Sun’s corona stay visible, creating a unique experience!

Where Can I Watch the 2023 Solar Eclipse in Boerne

This year’s solar eclipse will be pretty visible in a wide area around Boerne, but the closer you get to the center of the path the longer the annularity (where only the outer ring of the sun can be seen). In Boerne, the eclipse begins at 11:41 a.m., with around 4 minutes of annularity starting just after 11:51 a.m.

For the best view of the 2023 Texas Solar Eclipse, head to open fields, parks, or elevated viewpoints away from city lights. Boerne Lifestyle suggests scenic locations like Joshua Springs Park and Preserve. See additional businesses hosting viewings here: https://www.ci.boerne.tx.us/2253/Boerne-Eclipse

What is the Best Way to See a Solar Eclipse

It’s never safe to look directly at the sun, even when it’s behind the moon, so make sure you’re using certified eclipse glasses. Regular sunglasses do not count!

When Will the Next Solar Eclipse Happen?

So what if you can’t see this one? Or heaven forbid it turns out to be a cloudy day? Amazingly, eclipse watchers in the Texas Hill Country won’t have to wait long for another one. Mark your calendars for April 8th, 2024, because a total eclipse is coming! Keep those eclipse glasses handy!

Get ready for an incredible show this year with the anticipated annular eclipse! But hold on, because next year’s total eclipse is going to be even more spectacular! The city of Boerne is gearing up for over 50,000 visitors to join us for this celestial extravaganza!
